Transportation Mode & Hunt Style

All hunting in Unit 5a is carried out in 4-wheel drive vehicles, including both Mule Deer and Elk hunts.

Hunts in Unit 5a can be a little out of the norm. For the most part we use traditional Spot and Stalk methods, scanning the open parks and Sage Brush flats on the property. After our morning hunts we generally take up stands near waterholes frequently used by game animals.

The reason for this tactic is that the country in Unit 5a has some very thick forest understory, such as Bigelow Sage, Rabbit Brush and Chamise, not to mention some very dense stands of Juniper and Pinion Pine trees. To push this type of heavy growth usually just means pushing the game out of the country.

Terrain and Elevation

About 50% of this terrain is covered with dense growths of Cedar and Pinion Pine, and there is thick understory growth beneath that. There are three major ridges and two major arroyo systems that cut through this property, and these combine to make some breathtaking rock outcroppings. Elevations on this property run between 7000 and 8000 feet. The hunts are located approximately 7 Miles west of Lindrith, New Mexico.

Lodging, Meals and Guiding

All of our Clients for these hunts will be lodged on site in a combination of one old, refurbished wood cabin and some RV's. These are furnished by the outfitter. The cabin is what you would call "rustic" and has a porch area that makes the whole trip worthwhile. All meals will be prepared on-site and are fit for a king.
