Transportation Mode & Hunt Style

All hunting in this unit is carried out in 4-wheel drive vehicles, on both the Mule Deer and Antelope Hunts.

Hunt style for Mule Deer along the Pecos River evolves as the hunt progresses. The initial style is usually Spot and Stalk. This moves animals into the denser cover when Drive and Stand type hunting comes into play. There may also be activity along the river edges and in the thicker mesquite country which can turn into some pretty good workouts.

Antelope hunts are definitely Spot and Stalk due to the wide open range which they inhabit.

Terrain and Elevation

For the most part these hunts are in some pretty forgiving terrain; in rolling hills along the Pecos River bottomland. The going can get a little tougher when encountering Mesquite dunes, or the dense Salt Cedar thickets along the river's edge.

The average elevation for our Mule Deer and Antelope hunts in Unit # 32 is between 4000 and 4500 feet above sea level. The country we will be hunting is used for both livestock grazing and agricultural; primarily for the growing of alfalfa. The river bottom itself is covered with Salt Cedar, Russian Olive and some ancient old Cottonwoods planted back in the days when Ft. Sumner was an active army outpost.

Lodging, Meals and Guiding

All of our Clients on Unit #32 hunts will be housed in the spacious, clean and modern Super 8 Motel in Ft. Sumner, New Mexico, the county seat. The Billy The Kid Museum is only 1/2 block away from the motel itself.

Approximately 75% of all our meals will be homemade. The majority of the guides on these hunts will be residents of Ft. Sumner and in the agricultural business themselves, quite familiar with the ground which we will be hunting.
